This project aims to create an operational oceanography demonstration model in the Ligurian Sea based on the implementation of new autonomous observation systems such as underwater gliders in order to make accurate observations about the state of the sea.
It has the following aims:
- Improve existing observation platforms (profiling buoys, underwater craft, AUVs) and particularly the interfacing of new sensors in order to diversify the nature of the variables acquired at high frequency
- Develop new state of the sea devices (chemical, biological, water quality) particularly those based on the on-site inversion of optical data and on hydrodynamic circulation models.
- Develop a French prototype underwater beacon positioning system adaptable to multiple autonomous platforms such as AUVs and Glider.
The concept, once validated, in the Nice–DYFAMED/BOUSSOLE zone can be adapted for the observation of other key areas of the north western Mediterranean.
