Tracking of oil slicks and a coastal alert network

The 13 participants in this project (including France, Greece, Italy, Spain) aim to develop a network of coastal HF radar stations designed to follow the drift of oil spillage pollution in the Mediterranean, to exchange results, to improve drift models, to create an information network between these countries and, technologically, to further develop the state of the art in this field.

TOSCA (Tracking Oil Spills and Coastal Awareness) aims to bring these entities together to develop a sustainable network of local authorities, policy makers and scientists to improve environmental policies and appropriate decision making in the event of maritime accidents (oil pollution, search and rescue operations ...) in the Mediterranean. TOSCA will provide monitoring of ocean currents based on coastal HF radar technology and new generation drifting buoys.
