Each of the five Marines tend to reduce its environmental impacts, driven by increasing binding rules, while maintaining its competitiveness with construction costs and operating under control, all without breaching the rules of maritime safety and security. A common goal with different technological approaches as they address the Navy, commercial shipping (including river navigation), Pleasure boats and yachts, Fishing or Scientific and Special ships (offshore supply ...).

Taking into consideration the importance of international maritime activity and despite the long lifetime of most ships, the market for the fleet renewal is insured large and involves a significant maintenance market.
The PACA territory has maintained its expertise from its former naval construction industrial activity. Large companies and shipyards, such as DCNS, STX Europe and CMR-Group, have partly shifted their activities to the maintenance, upkeep, and refitting of ships, by developing new expertise on the national and international level.Experts in the area of research and training contribute their cutting-edge expertise for the development of new products and services.
