Fishing boats of the future will cut expenses

La DPMA has launched a call for R&D projects to bring innovative solutions to fishing boats to reduce their running costs by fuel savings.

At the beginning of 2009, the Maritime Fishing and Aquaculture Direction (DPMA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, launched a call for projects focusing on "Reducing the dependence of diesel fishing boats".The aim is to identify R&D projects that will lead to the development of technical solutions to reduce the consumption of fuel used to run vessels. This well-targeted call for projects places priority on fishing vessels for which fuel costs have a serious effect on business viability.A total of twenty-two projects were submitted. After an initial review, thirteen of them were selected, presented and defended by project holders this past May before the Committee of Experts.Regarding the PACA Competitiveness Marine Cluster, out of all of the projects that were pre-selected and presented on 19 May, four projects were selected by the cluster including Bulbe (JEAN&FRASCA DESIGN in Marseille) and RP3E (Cepralmar in Montpellier) which were chosen for funding by the DPMA.
