International experts meeting

At the first BIOMARINE Forum, the world conference on the ocean, held in Toulon and Marseilles this past October 20 to 24, a large international gathering met to discuss the major challenges facing the world’s oceans.

This was not only a first for the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region, but also for the world! During these four days, this BIOMARINE forum held at two major PACA Marine Cluster sites, brought together experts from the world of science, maritime business leaders, policy makers, State officials and NGO representatives. In addition to scientific expertise, this forum also highlighted economic and environmental challenges on the global level.  A series of debates and round tables were conducted. Topics on the agenda in Toulon were related to maritime and port security and safety, whereas in Marseilles, topics concentrated on the marine environment itself, marine pollution, resources and operations.  Thanks to this forum, the action of the PACA Marine Cluster has become better known in its own region, in France, and abroad as well. Numerous contacts were renewed or initiated, especially with potential foreign partner structures in Europe and in North America.
